Since the beginning of Digital Home one of our favorite projects to do have been home theaters. They're amazing to look at and our clients reactions are priceless. One thing we have noticed over these 15 years is there are a lot of questions revolving around them.
In this post we plan on addressing one the main ones, How to Set Up Home Theater Speakers!
The answer to this question is not a simple one, every room is different. One thing I can tell you is the answer is not the same as it was 15 years ago.
Today the short answer is to set up your speakers for Dolby Atmos. In the past normal surround sound would have been the answer but Dolby is the future.
Dolby Atmos enables your theater to have a more immersive sound than normal surround sound because it is 3D. What I mean by 3D is Dolby sound is not only from the left and right there are also speakers in the ceiling. This makes it so you feel as if objects in the movie are above you, to the side of you or wherever the director thought they should be.
This technology has been around since 2012 but there was not a lot of content available for it. Today the content is becoming more and more prevalent. It is available on Blue-Ray, Apple TV and most well known AV Receivers as well.
Whether it makes sense to set your room up in a Dolby Atmos 5.1.2, 5.2.2, 7.2.2, 7.2.4 or another Dolby Atmos set up again depends largely on your room but the answer is definitely Dolby Atmos.
